Soft and Chewy Pumpkin Protein Balls

Cherry Vanilla Energizer

I like to drink green smoothies almost every day and highly encourage everyone to give them a try. To keep it simple and tasty here is a recipe to get you started. Watch the video below to see how easy it is!

You need a high quality blender to make this Energizer. Make and drink half of this recipe 45 minutes prior to your run or within 30 minutes upon your return. Refrigerate any leftover Energizer in an airtight container and drink within 8 hours.

Serves: 1

INGREDIENTS:

Place in blender in the following order:

  • 1-1 1⁄2 C water (You can also use 1⁄2 water and 1⁄2 non-dairy milk for a creamier version)
  • 1⁄2 frozen banana
  • 1⁄2 scoop vegan Vanilla protein powder
  • 2 tsp. whole flax seed
  • 1 small zucchini or cucumber, peeled if not organic
  • 1 large handful mild lettuce or spinach, fresh

Cherry Flavor: I have recently started using Genesis Pure Cherry E2 workout powder. It offers a natural sweet boost to my juices and smoothies and more importantly…MORE Energy. This is so much better than bottled fuel drinks that have a lot of sugar, artificial colors and sweeteners.

  • Add 1⁄2 scoop of Cherry E2 – or you can throw in a few frozen cherries.

DIRECTIONS:

DK’s Colada Energizer

I used to love Pina Colada’s, but as I have become more discriminating with my calories, food sensitivities and health in general, I rarely enjoy a real one.  But, missing the incredible flavor of coconut, pineapples and bananas, I created this energizer as a great substitute.  No Guilt here folks.  Enjoy.

Serves 2colada energizer

Ingredients

  • ½ C unsweetened non-dairy milk (I prefer Coconut/Almond milk)
  • Cold Water – enough for proper consistency
  • ¼ pineapple
  • 1 banana
  • ½ scoop vanilla protein powder (I prefer rice or pea protein)
  • Large handful of spinach
  • ½ medium cucumber
  • 1 T flax seed

Directions

Place ingredients in the order above in blender and blend until smooth.

DK’s Honey Dew Energizer

There are numerous good reasons to add fresh raw smoothies into your diet.  Not only will they increase the amount of fruits and vegetables your body craves, but when blended you have immediate access to nutrients.  Adding in fruits and vegetables in this manner is one of the best ways to enjoy more fiber, enzymes and a variety of vitamins while decreasing those pesky sugar cravings.

The beautiful and sweet honeydew will provide your body with a surge of Vitamin C and can be found at its peak during the summer months.  One cup provides you with about a third of your recommended daily requirement.  This powerful vitamin can help your cells repair and regenerate.  When choosing the perfect melon look for one that is light green, smells sweet and has a slight give when you press it.  If it looks damaged or is too soft, keep looking.

Eating foods rich in fiber such as raw greens is associated with a lower risk of developing heart issues. Soluble fibers found in vegetables such as gum, pectin and psyllium dissolve in water, forming a gel type substance. This then absorbs bile acids and cholesterol and eliminates them from your body. Since bile acids are formed from cholesterol, your body tries to replenish them by using the cholesterol available in the bloodstream.  A joint study carried by scientists from University of California at Los Angeles and Louisiana State University found raw vegetables contain higher amounts of antioxidants. These antioxidants include vitamins C and E, folic acid, lycopene, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene.

Honey Dew Energizer

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Ripe Chilled Honey Dew Melon
  • 1 T fresh lemon juice
  • Handful of mild greens such as spinach or lettuce
  • ½ C ice

Because you are using ripe melon, there is no need to add additional liquid.  If you prefer thinner smoothies, feel free to add some filtered water.  Place the melon in the bottom of the blender and add in other ingredients and blend.  Grab your refreshing smoothie, a good read and sit in the shade and enjoy!
